Reducing plastic waste and curbing the spread of microplastics are the unshirkable shared responsibility of mankind! In order to promote the environmental protection strategy of using paper instead of plastic for sustainable development, Subtextile(one of the group of Hanrun Paper) held a large-scale publicity event in the community on December 22.
Mass production of plastics began in the 1950s, and the output has steadily increased year by year. In 2016, the total amount of plastic products in the world reached 335 million tons, an annual increase of about 4%. According to reports, the annual output of plastic waste to the ocean can reach 4.8-12.7 million tons, of which nearly 1.15-2.41 million tons of plastic waste are imported into the ocean by rivers. In 2015, marine plastic pollution has been listed as a major global environmental problem alongside global climate change, ozone depletion, and ocean acidification.
Most marine plastic waste is a non-degradable type of plastic. Most polymers will last for decades, or even hundreds of years, or even thousands of years. The pollution of marine debris and marine microplastics has attracted wide attention from society. From the perspective of marine garbage, plastic garbage accounts for the largest proportion of marine garbage, about 80%.
Marine microplastics and marine litter must not only be managed collaboratively but also be solved together as a global problem. China has always insisted on working with other countries in the world to deeply participate in the global pollution prevention and control of marine debris and microplastics.
We made mugs and canvas bags with sublimation paper as gifts to those who participated in our activities.
The enthusiasm of everyone for participation exceeded our imagination. The gifts were quickly sent out, and we urgently produced another batch. Some people participated in our interview, and once told her personal experience. She had read foreign news and knew that ocean pollution was very serious, but she hadn’t seen it with her own eyes and had no intuitive feelings until she went diving. She saw undegraded plastic garbage on the seabed, this scene shocked her.
When the sun had reduced its light, our activities were also over. This event was held very smoothly. We believed that everyone had a new concept of replacing plastic with paper.
The earth is our home, and everyone has the responsibility to protect it.
