With the rapid development of digital printing, the number of digital printing ink manufacturers has mushroomed, which will inevitably lead to uneven product quality on the market. How to make a more comprehensive and accurate quality judgment of digital printing ink is very important.
Although there are many types of digital printing inks and their composition is different, the ink products also have many commonalities while having characteristics. The quality level of digital printing ink can be identified from the following nine aspects.
Viscosity and surface tension
Viscosity is the resistance to liquid flow, and surface tension is the spreading ability of the ink on the printing medium. When the viscosity and surface tension work together, they will affect the fluidity of the ink in the ink circuit of the digital printing machine and the size of the ink droplets ejected. These are essential for the normal use of ink.
pH value
The pH value indicates the pH of the ink. The more acidic the solution, the lower the pH value. On the contrary, the more alkaline the solution is, the higher the pH value. In order to prevent the ink from corroding the print head, the pH value is generally 7-10. Over-acid or over-alkali will affect the storage stability of the ink.
Conductivity
Generally speaking, the conductivity of dye-based ink is less than 5 us/cm, and the conductivity of pigment-based ink is less than 1 us/cm. If the ink conductivity is too high, it is easy to form crystals in the nozzles, causing electrochemical corrosion, reducing the life of the print head, and even directly damaging the print head.
Color difference and color density
Most digital printing inks use four-color (BK/C/M/Y) or six-color (BK/C/M/Y/LC/LM).
Color has three elements, namely Hues, Saturation, and Brightness. Hue can compare different batches of the same ink on paper. It can be visually inspected or a colorimeter can be used to make preliminary judgments. To make an accurate judgment, it still needs to be realized on the digital printing machine after all. Use the same output software and output mode, print on the same medium, and then use the colorimeter and color density meter to measure and determine.
